The patter or even the roar of falling rain or hail popping and cracking noises perhaps due to thermal expansion and contraction of roof coverings metal roofing or roof structure and transmitted noises from other external sources such as low flying aircraft or nearby trains or auto truck traffic from a nearby highway. Lift up the edges of the surrounding roof shingles so you can see the edges of the vent. Climb onto the roof and locate the vent that is causing the noise. Often a stiff wind will open vent dampers causing them to periodically clang shut.

We recently installed an island range hood with rigid ducting venting through roof. The vent hood ducts through a rigid or flexible pipe to a cap on the roof or side of your home. Remove the screws holding the vent in place. The rain water then trickles through the lattice then drips on to the original roof surface and away in to the rain water drainage system.

Silent roof will stop the great majority of rain noise on any composite roofing structure to a mere whisper. The material is black in colour and is uv stabilised. This is very loud and sounds like rain on a tin roof right above my head. The problem is when it rains the sound transmits through the ducting down to the range hood.
